Famous politician Kevin Tracy investigated popular penny auction Beezid.com and came to the conclusion, that it is scam, it is cheating.
"Beezid appears to be using bots (software that runs an automated task) to ensure people keep bidding" - Tracy wrote in his blog yesterday.

If what this politician says is true about 'bots' in use at Beezid, it constitutes fraud, punsishable at law and should fully prosecuted to the full extent, if found guilty. There is no need for more controls, the laws exist already. (Just like a politician) So there may be a need for more cyber cops, but not laws to hound ISPs, Web Hosts etc, for client(s) misuse of their services. Service providers are in business for service, not policeing. However, if an ISP or Host knew for a fact, such was taking place and did nothing then and only then, could considered complicit; tough to prove. The politician and his ilk are the reasons orgs like the Electronic Frontier Foundation have to come into being, to fight protect govt encroachment against our rights. Point is; Is Big Brother seems to miss the target every time and blame it on someone else. There are ample statutes for everything, just they evidently can't find the one they need at the moment of their diatribe, so declare the current ones are obsolete and cry for new. I guess their reason is for justifying their job.

His subtitle sums it up, "Buyer Beware". What amazes me is the fact that you would label this as a scam. Beezid and other penny auctions provide nothing more than what people want and CHOOSE to do knowing up front what is required to participate. If they don't know they quickly learn. I find it unfortunate that you and so many of your colleagues are always desiring to "regulate" anything and everything for the so called protection of consumers. However, I do agree that it is necessary to protect consumers from true PONZI schemes, especially the ones that require all consumers to participate,
ReplyDeletelike Social Security.
Since you are in the regulatory and removal mode, I have a suggestion. Why not eliminate all state lotteries, you know the ones that advertise the pipe dream of instantly becoming a millionaire? The ones that are promising the ever needed financial assistance of the public school systems that are supposed to create the educated masses that wouldn't fall for such a SCAM as penny auctions or who would recognize an interest rate of 24% on a credit card would take forever to pay off. Oh wait a minute, I forgot, the lotteries are filling the money coffers of the government. Silly me, that makes them perfectly ok.
The internet is not broken therefore it doesn't need to be fixed. Congress on the other hand is and if there is anything the American consumer needs protection from it is you. Fix your own house first Mr. Tracy.

John,
ReplyDeleteWell said!!!
Thanks for the heads up. I have been visiting different auction sites and get many cool items at a cheap price. Good to know that you posted this information in your blog.

I still think the 'penny auctions" are controlling the bidding. If the people who are bidding the most are paying $.40 to $.70 for each bid then they are wasting thousands of $$'s a day. If the people who run these things are truley getting these prices per bid it's not hard to calculate how much they are making. Give them a break, let the stuff go for even a %300 markup & you will still make a very comfortable profit!

Be sure that you only deal with legit sites before you make any deal for your penny. it's always good to be extra cautious.
